GPHA Turns 40: Plans for a Sports Centre Take Shape
The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has marked its 40th anniversary with a series of events aimed at promoting the physical, mental and social well-being of its workforce. The celebration kicked off with a health and awareness walk in Tema and Takoradi, which brought together management, staff, retirees, their families, union executives and members of the GPHA community.
Health Walks Bring Unity and Solidarity
The exercise, which was organised simultaneously in both locations, featured music, dancing and health awareness activities, with participants dressed in the authority's blue, yellow and white colours. Mr Tebon Zumah, Director of Port, Tema, commended staff and retirees for their enthusiastic participation and resilience throughout the exercise.

Mr Zumah expressed appreciation to the GPHA workforce for its dedication and commitment over the past four decades, saying their collective efforts had sustained public confidence in Ghana's ports and contributed significantly to the country's trade facilitation agenda. He stated that plans were also underway to establish a dedicated sports centre to provide employees with a permanent facility for fitness programmes, sporting activities and other staff engagement initiatives.

Captain James Richmond Quayson, Director of Port, Takoradi, described the anniversary as a celebration of the merger that gave birth to the modern Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. Captain Quayson commended the dedication of staff at the Port of Takoradi, noting that every department remained focused on delivering efficient services to customers.
