Free SHS expansion was not matched with enough infrastructure – Haruna Iddrisu

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration expanded access to secondary education through Free Senior High School, but failed to build the physical infrastructure needed to hold the extra students, according to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu.

Speaking on the JoyNews program Newsfile on Saturday, September 12, Mr Iddrisu said the previous New Patriotic Party administration must share the blame for the breakdown in the Computerised School Selection and Placement System.

The lack of physical classrooms, dormitories, and school facilities across senior high schools is at the center of the placement problems, he told the program.

"Nana Akuffo Addo introduced a senior high school, a flagship initiative that has expanded access to secondary education. No doubt about it," Mr Iddrisu said during the broadcast.
