Ghana is spending too much money on secondary education while foundational basic learning suffers, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu said on JoyNews’ Newsfile.
Speaking on the Saturday, September 12 broadcast, Mr Iddrisu criticized public spending patterns across the national school system. He argued that state funds must be directed toward basic education to ensure children learn core reading and math skills early.
"We are spending too much on secondary education," Mr Iddrisu said during the broadcast. "That is a major damage the previous administration did to Ghana’s education system."
The minister explained that academic development depends on the strength of a child's early schooling. Children who fail to grasp essential literacy and numeracy at the basic level face steep hurdles as they advance.
