Minister Armah-Kofi Buah Stresses NDC's Dependence on Youth Wing
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, emphasized the importance of investing in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth wing at the opening of a two-day Western Regional Quadrennial Youth Conference in Takoradi.
Mr. Buah highlighted the significant role young people play in Ghana's electorate, urging the youth to remain committed and hardworking to secure opportunities and contribute to both party and national development.
The Youth as the Key to the NDC's Future
The Minister stated that over 70% of Ghana's voters are under 40 years old, and that the NDC's future is tied to the youth wing. If the party fails to focus on the youth, it will not survive. Mr. Buah called on young party members to position themselves to take advantage of emerging opportunities, assuring them that commitment and hard work would eventually be recognized.
Government Initiatives for Youth Empowerment
The Minister cited initiatives in education, healthcare, and employment as part of efforts to restore confidence in the economy. He highlighted the creation of more than 2,000 jobs through the Blue Water Guards initiative under his ministry. Mr. Buah assured the youth that the government was working to expand opportunities for them, and that the next national budget would place significant emphasis on youth empowerment.
Avoiding Undermining Others
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah urged the youth to avoid undermining others in their pursuit of political advancement, stressing that dedication to the party and service to the country would create opportunities for them to assume leadership in the future. He encouraged the youth to remain focused despite delays in securing opportunities, assuring them that their commitment and hard work would eventually be recognized.
The Path to Leadership
The Minister emphasized that the NDC's word is "work hard, sacrifice, don’t even look back." He assured the youth that someone is watching them and that they will be rewarded at the right time. Mr. Buah encouraged the youth to avoid comparing themselves to others and instead focus on their own growth and development.
The Minister's words come at a time when the NDC is seeking to regain its footing in Ghanaian politics. With the youth forming a significant part of the electorate, the party's future is indeed tied to its ability to empower and engage this demographic.
