The Northern Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened nominations for its 2026 Excellence in Journalism Awards. The competition is open to journalists across the Northern, North East, and Savannah Regions.

Nominations Timeline

The nomination period is currently underway, with early-bird pricing set to end on January 19, 2026. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2026, after which a $10 late fee will be incurred for each entry. The judging period is scheduled to take place from April to May 2026.

The Excellence in Journalism Awards recognize outstanding work in the field of journalism, with a focus on excellence and professionalism. The awards are open to anyone, including non-members, and cover a range of categories including news reporting, feature writing, and photography.

Eligibility and Entry Guidelines

According to the Public Media Journalists Association, entries must be submitted through their online system, with a deadline of March 6, 2026. Individual employees submitting their own work must include the station name in addition to their name.

The Association called on journalists across the Northern, North East, and Savannah Regions to uphold excellence and professionalism. The awards aim to recognize and celebrate outstanding work in the field of journalism.

What's Next

The award recipients will be notified by the end of May 2026, with public announcements to follow in June. The recipients will then accept their awards in person at the NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists National Convention in September 2026.
