Supermodel Cindy Crawford announced the death of her 27-year-old son Presley Gerber on 20 September at a rehabilitation facility in California. Authorities are investigating his death as a suspected overdose, though the Santa Monica Police Department confirmed there is no indication of foul play.
Gerber’s death was announced in an Instagram post by Crawford on Sunday. She described him as “a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever.” The post included a black-and-white photo of Gerber alongside the dates of his birth and death. “We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability,” she wrote.
Crawford added that the family felt “beyond heartbroken” and “so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years.” She thanked those offering support, saying, “We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain.” She closed with, “Til we meet again our sweet boy. We love you forever, Mom, Dad and Kaia,” accompanied by an angel wings emoji.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner lists the case as pending further investigation. Gerber had been open about his struggles with mental health and drug use, frequently sharing videos on Instagram under the title “Mental Health Mondays.”
Gerber began modeling as a teenager, following the footsteps of his mother and younger sister Kaia Gerber. He made his runway debut at age 16 for the Italian fashion label Moschino. His father, Rande Gerber, is a businessman and co-founder of the Casamigos tequila brand with George Clooney.
Kaia Gerber also posted a tribute on Instagram, including a video of them dancing as children, a photo of the siblings by the ocean, and a four-page typed letter addressed to “prez.” In the letter, she recalled being scared to get her ears pierced and how Presley had gone first. “But when I held the earring they took from your body, all I could think was: That belongs to you,” she wrote.
She went on to describe the difficulty of coping with his death. “I am learning how to love you when I cannot see you,” she said. “How to tell you something without picking up my phone to call you. How to be your sister in a world that I can’t reach for you in.”
The family’s public responses came amid ongoing investigations into the circumstances of Gerber’s death. No further details have been released by officials.
