Upper West Police Crack Down on Armed Robbery Syndicate Behind MoMo Attacks
The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects allegedly involved in a string of armed robbery attacks in the Wa West District and Wa Municipality. The suspects were arrested following months of intelligence-led and coordinated operations by the Police.
Robbery Syndicate Busted, Suspects Arrested
The six suspects are Amadu Moro, 35; Adama Yussif, 40; Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52; Iddrissu Adama, 35; Korika Issaka, 20; and Zakaria Brigi, 21. Preliminary investigations have linked Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro, and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman to several robbery incidents in the region.
The suspects allegedly used the PINs to transfer money from the victims' accounts into MoMo accounts controlled by the robbers. Approximately GH¢22,070 in cash was allegedly taken from victims, and an additional GH¢3,274 was reportedly siphoned through the victims' MoMo accounts.
Police Operation: A Look into the Investigation
Francis Yiribaare, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Upper West Regional Police Commander, said in a statement that the Police have intensified efforts to locate and arrest two other alleged members of the syndicate. These suspects are Haruna, 30, who is alleged to serve as the gang's armourer, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24, the son of the deceased suspect.
The Police have retrieved seven mobile phones from the suspects, and the devices are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Zakaria Brigi sustained injuries during the operation but is currently receiving treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital.

The Upper West Regional Police Command is urging residents, particularly those in communities affected by the recent robbery incidents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements, and activities to the Police. The Command is also appealing to the public to provide credible information that could help investigators apprehend the two wanted suspects and prevent further criminal activities.
The death of Nasiru Abdul Rahman during the operation has left many in the community shaken. The Police operation has brought a sense of relief to the people of Wa West District and Wa Municipality, but the search for the two remaining suspects continues.
