An international arbitration tribunal has dismissed a 400 million dollar claim by Sunrise Power and Transmission against Nigeria over the long-delayed Mambilla hydroelectric project.
Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi announced the legal outcome on Tuesday.
The decision came in a ruling delivered on September 17 by a tribunal under the International Chamber of Commerce.
The tribunal's ruling removes a major legal obstacle to the 3,050-megawatt power project.
The decision potentially revives Nigeria’s biggest hydroelectric scheme after nearly two decades of continuous delays.
Fagbemi said the tribunal found that settlement agreements relied on by Sunrise Power were not binding on Nigeria.
The arbitrators determined that the government officials who signed those agreements lacked the authority to commit the state.
