Carlos Queiroz told Ghana fans to support the players available for Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia instead of focusing on those missing from the squad. The Black Stars will host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium in their second Group C match, aiming for their first points after losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire last Thursday in Bouaké.
Several important players are absent. Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, and Nathaniel Adjei are among those unavailable. Alexander Djiku picked up an injury during the loss to Côte d’Ivoire and will not play. Queiroz has called up replacements for these players as he prepares for his first competitive game in Ghana since returning for a second spell as head coach.
“It’s better to stay home if you’re coming to the stadium to complain about players that are not here instead of supporting those that are here,” Queiroz told reporters ahead of the game.
The Portuguese coach wants the fans to back the squad on the pitch, hoping the home crowd can help the team respond after a disappointing start to the qualifiers. Ghana’s campaign carries added weight after the Black Stars missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, ending a run of more than 20 consecutive appearances.
Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana will face a Gambian side that also needs a result in Group C, putting pressure on both teams. Ghana currently has no points from their opening fixture and must avoid another setback at home.
