Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie spoke about institutional performance over the "past eight years" during visits to two state organizations on September 2, 2026. The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has now cautioned him against public remarks that could create doubts about the political neutrality of the Judiciary.
The Bishops issued their warning in an official statement signed by the President of the Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi.
The concern followed public statements made by Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie during official visits to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, known as SSNIT, and the Minerals Income Investment Fund, known as MIIF.
In its statement, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference said there was nothing improper about the head of the Judiciary visiting public institutions.
