Ghana Immigration Service removes 1,055 street beggars from the streets of Accra and Kumasi

Officers from the Ghana Immigration Service have removed 1,055 migrant street beggars from the streets of Accra and Kumasi.

The operation targets foreign nationals living in Ghana without valid documentation.

Authorities are currently holding the affected individuals in processing facilities as official arrangements begin to send them back to their home countries.

The sweep comes amid public concerns over urban safety and illegal migration in major cities.

Directives from the interior ministry

The joint security exercise follows instructions from the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka.

Muntaka issued directives to law enforcement agencies to clear major urban centres of unregistered non-citizens who beg on public roads.

Government officials identified street begging as an urgent concern in the country's two largest cities.
