Tano North Member of Parliament Dr Gideon Boako has said that an alleged $80 million monthly cap on the Bank of Ghana’s foreign exchange interventions was redacted from public International Monetary Fund reports because of market sensitivity.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, August 29, Dr Boako stated that the absence of the figure from public documents should not be interpreted as evidence that no such agreement existed during the previous IMF programme.
His comments follow an ongoing public debate over assertions made by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who stated that the previous government was constrained by an IMF-imposed limit on its foreign exchange interventions.
Dr Boako explained that details about central bank intervention limits are routinely kept out of public records to protect currency stability.
