Ryan Gosling Joins Marvel's Blazing Universe

Ryan Gosling is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the titular character in a new Ghost Rider film. The film is due to be released in 2028, marking Gosling's entry into the franchise.

Gosling's Ghostly Debut

Gosling expressed his excitement about taking on the role, saying it's a character he has “wanted to play for a very long time”. He made the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, where he appeared on stage to cheers from screaming fans. Gosling has previously spoken about his desire to take on the role, even confirming he was in discussions with Marvel on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast in March.

Levy at the Helm

The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who Gosling described as the “only” director for the project. Levy has previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine in the MCU and is currently working with Gosling on Star Wars: Starfighter, which is due to be released next year. Levy told the crowd that he and Gosling spent a lot of their downtime on set daydreaming about Ghost Rider and swapping ideas.

A New Chapter for the MCU

The addition of Gosling to the MCU is the latest update for fans this year. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had often been asked when Gosling would join the MCU, and the lights turned off before the big reveal. The film will be the third about the motorcycle-riding anti-hero, following the 2007 film of the same name starring Nicolas Cage and its follow-up, 2011's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Reynolds Steals the Show

Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance at a panel for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, dressed in a grey version of Deadpool's suit. He asked teasing questions of celebrity panellists like Robert Downey Jr and Paul Rudd, including "When do you start filming?" Downey Jr shot back, "It's in the can, bro, look around you. Did you bump your head?"

What's Next for the MCU

With the release of Ghost Rider in 2028, fans can expect a thrilling new chapter in the MCU. The film will follow the story of Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman who becomes bound to the Spirit of Vengeance Zarathos after making a deal with villain Mephisto. As the film gears up for production, fans are eagerly anticipating the next installment in the franchise. With Gosling and Levy at the helm, it's clear that this new Ghost Rider film will be a thrilling addition to the MCU.
