The bodies of three children were found inside the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson in Tamale’s Koblimahagu Zoo area early on Monday, October 5, 2026. The vehicle was stuck in mud on a nearby road. Police arrested the vehicle’s owner, a member of the Ghana Immigration Service, and transported him to Accra for questioning.
The three children—Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3; Saani Alsharaf, 5; and Dauda Fadilan, 7—had left home at about 8am on Sunday, October 4, to attend Islamic classes. They never returned. Community members searched for them without success until the bodies were discovered around 5am the following day.
Police said the vehicle’s registration number is AS 1770-14. Preliminary inspection found the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat open, while the other doors, including the boot, remained locked. The owner told investigators the car had been stuck in the mud for five days before the bodies were found.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has dispatched a special investigative team to Tamale to assist the Northern Regional Police Command. This unit includes homicide investigators, crime scene experts, and intelligence officers. Their task is to clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police have not released any information about the cause of death.
The owners of the children requested the release of the bodies for burial according to Islamic customs. Police declined this, citing the need for an autopsy to aid investigations. Authorities assured the families that the state will cover any financial costs associated with the procedure.
The vehicle is under forensic examination. Investigations remain ongoing. The case has drawn attention to security and child protection issues in the Northern Region, but no further details have been released about possible suspects or motives.
