What if the next big AI solution for Ghana’s agriculture or healthcare comes from a young Ghanaian trained in China? That is the future Ambassador Kojo Bonsu is working to build.
In Zhoukou, Henan Province, Ambassador Bonsu launched the China-Ghana Youth AI Talent Development Programme. The initiative comes from his GenZ AI Club and aims to train young Ghanaians in artificial intelligence and data science.
The programme is a partnership with APUS Technology Co., Ltd., an AI company based in Beijing, and Zhoukou Normal University. It offers full scholarships for students in China and Ghana. Those studying in China will attend onsite classes, while Ghanaian students will join online.
Ambassador Bonsu said, “We want to create a growing network of young Ghanaian professionals capable of developing solutions to challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education and finance.” He urged participants to become multipliers by sharing what they learn with others across Ghana.
Students who perform well will get internships with APUS Technology to gain practical experience. The company will also offer job contracts for outstanding students during the one-year programme.
For Ambassador Bonsu, this initiative is personal. He wants Ghana’s youth to be part of the AI revolution, not left behind. The programme offers more than training. It creates an educational and technological bridge between Ghana and China.
The project also signals a new kind of diplomacy. Instead of just deals and embassies, it gives young people from Kumasi, Tamale, or Accra a chance to sit in a Chinese AI lab and imagine what they can build for Ghana.
With the scholarship window now open, the programme aims to develop talent ready to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges through AI solutions.
